Ritalin on Trial

While some Houston parents fight what they charge is "a river of Ritalin" running through the schools, one father has gone to court to try to prove that, for his son, Ritalin use is Ritalin abuse.

"Steven wishes we could trade heads," Keene says, "so I could see what it's like." And since he can't do that, Keene is determined to keep fighting, and will appeal if he loses the present battle. "All the child has to save him from being drugged," Keene says, "is his parents.

This is a good story. Ritalin killed my 22 yr old son in Nov 2009. He became addicted after 10 years of using his ADD medicine. My son's mother and I are devastated. In Texas you can't sue because of Tort reform. No lawyer will take your case for a part of 250,000 dollars. I have had several tell me this.

My son was on Ritalin for 10 years from 6th grade on. He seemed to do well, but during his sophmore year of college he became addicted and went from 3.65 GPA to dropping out, trying Respiratory Tech school and was kicked out for poor attendance. I realized he had a serious drug problem when he took 32 of his Ritalin/Methylphenadate in one day. He told me why did God give me this curse? Why did you give me this drug? I tried to explain, then we went to Memorial Herman PaRC for treatment and they kicked him out after 22 days. 7 days later my 22 yr old son was found dead at a Houston halfway house the PaRC had recommended. It was a hell hole I wished I checked out. I have now learned this addiction damages their brain and they can't make good decisions if they wanted to. A 90 day or more treatment is required for any chance at healing the young brain. God help you if you get addicted to this schedule 2 highly addictive drug. This shouldn't have happened to Sean. The doctors and teachers don't seem to care. There needs to be a database to catch doctor shoppers and Pharmacist are not protecting addicts from their uncontrollable disease. It is like an alcoholic that can't stop. Go to the NIDA and learn what Nora Volkow is learning using brain imaging.
