Return of the One-Man Mob

Last week, John Shike files a lawsuit against the Houston Press and staff writer Steve McVicker in connection with "One Man Mob," a profile of Shike that appeared in the Press on May 8, 1997. The article detailed Shike's long-running divorce suit, as well as his other legal entanglements.

Shike's ex-wife, Saba Hameed, Aid for Victims of Domestic Abuse and ADVA employee Ann Recio were also named in the suit. Shike contends that, among other things, the Press maliciously reported that he files frivolous lawsuits.

Says editor Margaret Downing, "The Press stands by its story and its reporter.
