Folb, who has been advertising director for the Press since July 1997, replaces Publisher Terry Coe, who has served in that position since January 1994.
This year, New Times has continued its expansion into major U.S. markets with recent acquisitions of Scene in Cleveland, Ohio and Riverfront Times in St. Louis, Missouri. Coe will be moving to St. Louis to become publisher of that paper.
New Times also owns newspapers in Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Denver, Miami and Broward/Palm Beach, meaning it has a presence in ten markets. These papers provide a mix of hard-hitting investigative journalism and in-depth features, combined with comprehensive coverage of arts, entertainment, dining, film and nightlife.
Over the past four years, the Houston Press has experienced tremendous growth in circulation, sales and page count while collecting numerous national and regional journalism awards, including the John Bartlow Martin Award, the Association of Alternative Newspapers' top investigative reporting award; several first-place awards from the National Association of Black Journalists; several Dallas Press Club's Katie Awards -- including two years in a row for best non-daily paper in a five-state area -- and several first-place awards in the Houston Press Club competition.
Folb began his career with New Times at the Phoenix New Times in June 1990 as an advertising account executive. New Times CEO Jim Larkin said, "This promotion of Stuart Folb and move of Terry Coe to St. Louis is testament to the fine work of both and the huge growth this paper has seen.
