N'Awlins goodness

Cheesy corporate title aside, this package tour is a healthy dose of N'Awlins goodness. After a long bout of the grumpies, stemming from his battles with Fantasy Records over the Creedence Clearwater Revival catalog (in which he was once sued for plagiarizing himself), headliner John Fogerty has only recently started performing the hits that made him famous: classic-rock radio fodder such as "Born on the Bayou," "Green River," "Bad Moon Risin'" and "Down on the Corner." He also has a string of solo hits, including his 1997 album, the critically acclaimed Blue Moon Swamp, and a voice untarnished by time.

Over the past 40 years, opener Aaron Neville has parlayed his sweet, soaring tenor and falsetto vocals (in striking contrast to his physical hulkishness) into success, both with the first family of funk, the Neville Brothers, and with his own R&B/pop crossover solo career.

And finally, while his performances in recent years may have lacked inspiration, "The Night Tripper" Dr. John (a.k.a. Mac Rebennack) still commands the ivories and sings in his trademark gravelly voice on a journey through blues, R&B and Cajun styles. His 1968 record, Gris Gris, is a must-have, a melding of New Orleans music with psychedelia, and the opening notes of his "Right Place, Wrong Time" still work their voodoo. The lobby of the venue will also offer Mardi Gras-ish arts and crafts and lots of food, heavy on the crawfish and boudin. Let the good times, uhh, roll.
