A Dark and Stormy Night

Warren's Inn's Blue Hawaiian

The night was rainy and the streets of downtown were nearly deserted. I parked my heap at Old Market Square and ambled across to Warren's Inn (307 Travis, 713-247-9207) in search of some trouble. The place always reminds me of a saloon out of the Old West -- swinging doors and six-shooters are about the only things missing. As I draped my wet overcoat over a barstool, the tall brunette sitting across the bar held my eyes for a brief moment -- then her boyfriend sidled up next to her. She was drinking a Blue Hawaiian, so I joined her. The cold Absolut hit my empty stomach like a bomb. The second and third went down easier, but by this time a crowd of rowdy revelers had arrived. I finished my drink and headed for the door. It was time to book a plane to someplace warm.

Warren's Inn's Blue Hawaiian:
2 1/2 ounces Absolut vodka
1 1/2 ounces blue curaçao
Maraschino cherry

Into a highball glass filled with ice, pour vodka and blue curaçao. Stir and garnish with cherry.
