Damage Control airs every Wednesday at midnight until 3 a.m. Thursday on KPFT/90.1 FM.

Scuttlebutt Caboose

Speaking of KPFT and its hip-hop heritage, Rad Rich (a former co-host of Strictly Rap) will be hosting a program on punk and its history of rebellion and protest on Monday, December 16, at noon. Folks like Joey Keithley of D.O.A. (who has become a Green Party candidate in British Columbia), Justin Sane of Pittsburgh's Antiflag and Allison Wolfe of feminist punk group Bratmobile will be joined by surprise guests in the hour-long broadcast…If you're dreaming of a Celtic Christmas, this year's won't be quite like the ones you used to know. The December 15 Celtic Christmas Fest has been moved from Garden in the Heights to Houston City Limit, 19959 Holzwarth (off I-45 North at Cypresswood). Glengarry Bhoys, the Flying Fish Sailors, Godfrey's Rangers, On the Dole and the McTaggart Irish Dancers are on the bill…Pasadena's all-ages venue the Hard Rock Washateria (9406 Spencer Highway) is rejuvenated and accepting bookings. The 250-capacity, booze-free venue encourages all bands -- from emo to hardcore to death metal -- to e-mail to line up a gig. Just don't bring your laundry; the Hard Rock Washateria is a Laundromat in name only…Poor Dumb Bastards, Gringo Starr, the Magnetic IV and the Downtowns are playing together Friday, December 20, at the Engine Room for the First Annual Halt Holiday Hunger Extravaganza to benefit the Houston Food Bank. The cover is $4 with a nonperishable food donation…Bruce Godwin is auctioning off the Record Rack on eBay -- possibly the first record store ever sold through the online site. Act fast -- bids must be received by Thursday, December 12, at 4:22 p.m. local time. The winning bid gets the entire contents of the store, including 2,000 full-length CDs and an assortment of DJ and stereo equipment. For $30,000 you can have the lot and end the auction right off the bat. It may be too late to appease the half-dozen or so of you who wrote in expressing good riddance, but Godwin is apologetic about the last couple of years of his tenure and the finger-pointing in this space a couple of weeks ago. "I guess I forgot to blame myself for being so arrogant, rude and conceited for the Record Rack closing," he writes in an e-mail. "My bad." You can bid at…Houston natives and long-term Austinites Trish and Darin Murphy will be reuniting December 19 at the Continental Club for their first all-acoustic gig together since Bush the Elder was in the White House… Indie rocker Brady Brock, another former Houstonian, will also be home for the holidays. Brock has a December 27 show lined up at Rudyard's and will drop by KTRU that same day for a live acoustic giglet…The Proletariat is stepping up its live music schedule: In addition to the Single Frame Ashtray/ Faceless Werewolves/Frox Noxon and Voodoo Organist shows this week, and DJ Ceeplus and Samplistik's weekly Monday-night "Dynamite Lounge" funk/rock/jungle/soul/hip-hop extravaganza, the club is now hosting a locals-only Wednesday-night weekly showcase for DJs and bands. If you want to get in on the local action, drop off your CD and press kit at the club (903 Richmond) or send 'em to the Proletariat's address: P.O. Box 667501, Houston, TX 77266.
