Jeff Black, with Ian Moore

Saturday, April 12

B-Sides and Confessions Volume One makes a cleverly appropriate title for Jeff Black's new Dualtone album. Following a roots-rock album backed by members of Wilco for the once-hip, now-vanished Arista Austin label, Black's latest songs are scraped-bottom meditations on life that have a just-out-of-rehab Tom Waits appeal. A typical quiet Black epiphany: "The Lord respects me when I'm working hard / but he loves me when I sing." With the war, vague terrorist threats and an uncertain economy consuming the collective psyche, listeners looking for a show that features common decency, insightful humanity, signs of hope and considerable lyrical depth will find them in abundance when Jeff Black debuts his new album in a solo acoustic format.
