The hunt is on

Easter egg hunts can be unseemly events, with kids ruthlessly tossing aside traditional hard-boiled eggs and each other in the mad search for candy. Some parents might think twice before taking their children beyond the backyard for Easter activities. But if your offspring know better than to embarrass you, outfit them in their Sunday best and release them at one of the hunts around town. At the Orange Show's Easter Orange Hunt, kids can sniff out oranges and other goodies, pet real bunnies and meet the Easter Bunny himself. At the Sugar Land "Eggstravaganza," festivities include egg hunts, a petting zoo and hayrides. And the Kemah Boardwalk is having a hunt with prizes that will save parents money: tokens for games and rides at the boardwalk's amusement park. Invasive Procedure

Kids can get a glimpse of their insides by exploring the Amazing Body Pavilion, a larger-than-life tour of the human body on permanent view at the Museum of Health & Medical Science. Hands-on exhibits include an intestine that's more than 25 feet long, "clogged artery stations" and a skeleton riding a bicycle. Step right up, kiddos. Slip inside the "colossal walk-in eyeball." In contrast to "bat day" or "bobble-head day" at the ballpark, this Thursday is "pine tree day" at the Children's Museum of Houston. The first 3,200 kids through the doors will receive a pine sapling to plant. The giveaway coincides with Earth Day celebrations at the museum. In addition to learning how their actions impact the environment, kids can also create wacky hats and other crafts using recycled materials. 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 17. 1500 Binz.
