More About

Jane says the best reason to head out to this year's Lollapalooza, risking dehydration and mosh-pit injuries, is the Mooney Suzuki. Chock-full of fuzzy guitars, nostalgic harmonies and balls-out energy, this New York-based foursome is reminiscent of late-'70s punk with a 21st-century edge. The quartet provides the kind of music necessary for copious amounts of sweating and thrashing about, thanks to Graham Tyler's relentless guitar, Will Rockwell's punishing drums and, best of all, Sammy James Jr.'s sexy, scratchy vocals, which, if you're not paying attention, you might mistake for Elvis Costello's. They're well known for their tendency to tear shit up on stage, so it'll be interesting to see what these incipient rock stars -- who recently toured with the Strokes (who hasn't, really?) and signed on with Columbia (the original print of the band's seminal album, Electric Sweat, on Gammon Records will soon be a collector's item) -- find to smash and/or swing from at the Pavilion.
