UPN holds a casting call for The Player

What's up, player? You probably think you're hot shit with all that bling-bling and debonair flair, but how do you think you'd fare against some of the smoothest operators in the nation? If you feel up to the challenge, then you've got to hit the scene this weekend and show the folks at UPN exactly how slick you can be.

Play on, player.

Casting agents from the network will be in town searching for contestants for The Player, a new dating reality series. "We're looking for people who think they are true players," says Don Weiner, the show's executive producer. "They enjoy the opposite sex. They're out there having fun. And they think they have what it takes to win the title of the Ultimate Player on our show." Haters need not apply.

And even if you consider yourself only a part-time player, you should still give it a shot. "The individuals who are selected for the show are going to be brought together and transported into the world of a true player," says Weiner. "It's going to be bling-bling, cool cars, VIP parties and a lot of celebrities. We're really going to give them a true taste of what the ultimate player lifestyle is like. Anyone who gets involved with the show is going to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

But be forewarned: Reality TV has a tendency to not be very -- well, for lack of a better word -- real. You never know how weird your 15 minutes of fame could become. Weiner wouldn't tell us much about the ins and outs of the show, but he did say, "It's got a twist to it that's kind of unusual." No big surprise there.

Casting agents will be scouting for talent at various locations this weekend: 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Thursday, March 4, M Bar, 402 Main, 713-222-1022; 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday, March 5, HUSH, 15625 Katy Freeway, 713-330-4874; 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday, March 6, Club Sempers, 2727 Crossview, 832-242-6526. The open-call audition will be at HUSH: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (for women) and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. (for men), Sunday, March 7. For information, visit www.upn.com. Free.
