SAT 5/14

Like the annual MS 150, the Shiner B.A.S.H. is a famous, annual charity bike ride. But unlike the 150, this race is for a good cause and a good buzz. At the B.A.S.H.'s finish line, you get to tour the venerable Spoetzl Brewery in Shiner, Texas, and score free samples. Then there's the after-party, where riders get their first two beers on the house. This weekend, more than 3,000 cyclists will depart from Austin, San Antonio and Houston and make for the Shiner brewery. A race tip for would-be bikers: Be sure to bring extra water and carb/protein snacks for the trip. As for the after-party, tell your friends to drive ahead and bring lawn chairs (no blankets are allowed) for you to slump into after the 90-mile ride. And there will be buses should you be too tired -- or too drunk -- to drive home.

Entertainment comes courtesy of crooners Robert Earl Keen and Kevin Fowler, who says this is his final gig before he gets hitched and heads to Mexico for a quick honeymoon. (Buy that dude an extra Shiner.) Bikers depart at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 14, from Sun & Ski Sports Center, Katy Mills Mall, 5000 Katy Mills Drive. For information and registration, call 888-597-7827 or visit www.shiner.com. Registration starts at $50. Concert tickets, $19; free for riders. Event benefits the American Lung Association. -- Greg Barr

Yeah, Buoy

SAT 5/14

Standing and watching hundreds of cars at this weekend's Ev1.net Art Car Parade can get almost hypnotic. So if you find yourself still in a trance once the parade's over, don't fret. The procession continues at Buffalo Bayou with the Anything That Floats Parade. It's a straightforward title: Literally anything that can stay adrift in the bayou -- decorated rafts, canoes, even vessels made entirely of plastic Coke bottles -- is fair game for display. Our favorite is an enormous floating toilet seat (somewhat fitting, considering the bayou's murky, brown contents). Make sure your piece can float for at least 100 yards, and you could win prizes in a host of categories. (Here's hoping someone makes a floating toilet brush.) 3 p.m. Saturday, May 14. Sesquicentennial Park, Sabine at Bagby. For information or registration, call 713-752-0314 or visit www.buffalobayou.org. Free. -- Steven Devadanam
