Wish You Were Here

Greetings from Gitmo

Congressman Ted Poe has gotten national attention with a little travelogue he wrote that showed up on the op-ed page of the Houston Chronicle and on the celebrated HuffingtonPost, a celebrity-filled blog run by Adrianna Huffington. In it he described the joys of Guantánamo Bay, which he had just visited. Prisoners, he said, "spend time relaxing in their rooms, talking, playing outside on the soccer and volleyball courts or playing ping-pong."

Poe also noted that he watched some prisoners being questioned, and during none of the interrogations (that were being watched by members of Congress) did anything untoward occur. (Wow!) But really, it's the whole tone of "Gitmo as romantic getaway" that hit home.
