If you were a fan of TV's Melrose Place, you may be familiar with the work of Houston-born artist Mel Chin without knowing it. Chin organized a group of artists to insert subliminal artworks, like sheets and pillowcases bearing silk-screened images of condoms, into a season of MP episodes (the writers and producers were in on it). But if you weren't a fan, you probably still know Chin — from his public art project Seven Wonders, a set of enormous stainless-steel pillars overlooking Buffalo Bayou. This weekend, the Station Museum of Contemporary Art will open "Do Not Ask Me," a collection of 30 Chin artworks representing the broad range of media implemented in his oeuvre. Included in the exhibit is Chin's recent Render, an installation depicting the complex emotion and profound trauma inflicted by terrorism in the Middle East. Opening reception 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Exhibit runs through April 30. 1502 Alabama. For information, call 713-529-6900 or visit www.stationmuseum.com. Free.
