Band name: Vicarious Me
Personnel:Acrobat (guitar), Christian T.A. (vocals), Hibby (bass), Fry (drums)
Native or transplant? We're native to Houston as far as I know; sometimes we're even gentle savages.
What's in a name, particularly yours? It's your first impression. In our case you might think "Vicarious Me: that's bad grammar." But really I think in this day and age everybody has a Vicarious Me. Everyone is too busy to really live so when they get home they escape through other characters, be it fictional or reality TV, books, video games, movies or whatever. They identify in an unattached yet very personal way, a form of urban escapism. That's where we come in; we take the listener on a musical stroll through our cable channels.
When did you form?VMe began its formation in early 2004 and continued to sift through various personalities until the beginning of '05.
Releases/discography: As of now we have a full-length album recorded; however, we are only going to release an eight-song EP. We have decided to use four of the mastered songs with four live ones and show the listener what our stage sound is all about.
Who or what do you think you sound like? I know a lot of people say this, but I don't think we sound like anyone, maybe a schizophrenic with ADD.
What are some of your noteworthy recent feats? Our biggest noteworthy feat was coming out in granny drag at the Sidecar Pub (there are pictures on our MySpace page).
What albums have had the biggest impact on you? Some of the most influential albums I (Christian T.A., vocals) can think of were We're Only In It for the Money (Frank Zappa and the Mothers ), The Wall (Pink Floyd), Never Mind the Bollocks (the Sex Pistols) and Chocolate and Cheese (Ween). There are so many.
What artists have had the biggest impact on you? Some of the artists that have had the biggest impact on me are, as I mentioned, Frank Zappa, Ween, Mike Patton, the Flaming Lips, Judas Priest, Cat Stevens, the Impotent Sea Snakes, the Pixies and the Beatles, just to mention a few. I'm influenced by all music -- the good, the bad and the pre-packaged bubblegum crap you hear 20 times a day.
How do you pay the bills? What is your day job?During the day I work at a large format graphics and advertising agency. Josh, our guitarist, is in sales of commercial a/c and heat units. Mike, our drummer, has just recently been promoted to supervisor of a tile installation company, and Marvin, our bassist, is currently looking for a job, but in his free time tests pipes for local smoke shops.
