Nothing's Up

Classic underachievers fumble through [sic]

Frank, Theo and Babette, the three central characters in [sic], the latest play from Mildred's Umbrella, have serious issues. They're educated. They're condescending. And they're pretty much failures. Babette, an aspiring writer, has not actually written anything. Ever. Would-be auctioneer Frank bumbles a tongue-twister tape from his home study course from an auctioneer school. And classically trained composer Theo can't get past bar three of the theme he's writing for the amusement park ride "Thrill-O-Rama," the only paying job he can get. "They spend a lot of time remembering that one of their neighbors is dead, but not actually doing anything about the body," says Jennifer Decker, who plays Babette. "And that's pretty much a metaphor for their lives."

Like the textual notation from which [sic] takes its name, the play highlights the mistakes of the characters. "This is a character study kind of like Seinfeld," says Decker. "There are various story lines," she explains. "But it's really about nothing." Well, it worked for nine seasons for Jerry.
