As documented in Roger Wood's excellent book Down in Houston, this city has a long and rich blues history. But there won't be many downhearted folks at the second annual Blues on the Bayou show. At this benefit for the waterfront preservationist group Bayou Buddies, the lineup includes local legends I.J. Gosey and Little Joe Washington. In his half-century-long career, Gosey has backed up lots of musicians on record and stage, but in recent years he has stepped to the forefront. And while the aptly named Little Joe often gets more attention for his lifestyle antics than for his playing, justice was served when his dreadlocked visage appeared on the cover of the all-Texas issue of Living Blues last year.
