You probably won't see Carolyn Farb or Shelby Hodge sipping bubbly at the 2006 Art Car Ball. But it is the social event of the season — for gearheads, gallery haunters and art car lovers. With more than 100 art cars on display for your viewing and general amazement (how did they glue all that shit onto the hood?), this Houston tradition is the perfect symbiosis of high art, low art and piston performance. Bands performing include singer/beatboxer/live looper Kid Beyond and Austin horror-psychobilly rockers Flametrick Subs. For more eye candy, the Subs are bringing along their impossibly sexy backing dancers, Satan's Cheerleaders. There will also be dancing from tribal whirlers Urban Gypsy, roaming psychics, a few Elvises and even a clergyman officiating "temporary marriages" for attendees. And you thought this was just a party for cars.
