Detroit-based NOMO kicks out phat instrumental jams that sound a little like Ozomatli meets Ornette Coleman. Mixing African polyrhythm and free jazz, the eight-member act serves up raucous, gritty numbers that throb with heavy bass lines and rock with peppy horns and percussion. (Who needs lyrics?) Pushing their fresh disc, New Tones, the octet holds it down with His Name Is Alive today. Check the tones at 8 p.m.
