Something's Fishy

Scott Huber — better known as the local left-field rhymer Babelfishh — pushes a brand of quirky, lo-fi indie hip-hop that's basically the opposite of what hip-hop and rap sound like in and around the South. Of course, he's from San Jose, California, just south of where Anticon, the indie hip-hop label that helped inspire Babelfishh's music, is based. Today at Rudyard's, Babelfishh will unleash his strange, hyperspeed storytelling and funny falsetto choruses. He'll be backed by scattered beats (ranging from dark breaks to country and punk rock) and sampled noises (slide whistle!) created by Huber, recent Ninja Tune recruit Yppah and Dizrokwel. You're gonna dig this white boy's rhymes about throwing up Lone Star, and why Wal-Mart and Queen Latifah are Satan. Babelfishh opens for Love Drunk and Born Liars at 10 p.m.
Fri., June 30, 9 p.m.
