Under the Microscope

Playwright Lindsay Kayser tends to hang her shows on fairly straightforward plotlines. Yet once the show starts, well, you may wonder where in the hell the plot went.

Her latest effort, Microscope Maintenance and Repair, is centered on three characters called "The Talent" who are preparing to voice a training video for microscope maintenance (what else would they be voicing?). In a ramshackle studio, the three work with a director, a handyman and the Seximals, a band whose members "play and eat sandwiches," says Kayser. The actual training video is performed by live shadow puppets. "Fairly soon," she adds, "the audience will discover that this is not your typical microscope."

And that's all you really need to know. Kayser's shows are best enjoyed with an open mind, and not with microscopic analysis.
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: July 7. Continues through July 15
