Going Batty

Thanks to Dracula, rabies and the crappier of the Batman movies, bats have gotten a bad rap. Consider this awesome factoid, though: These winged wonders can eat their weight in insects. And preventing the spread of the infectious diseases that such edible bugs carry is only one perk of sharing our city with the more than 250,000 Mexican free-tailed bats, who have colonized the Waugh Street bridge.

Today's pontoon boat tour Bats on the Bayou gives you a chance to learn more facts about our friends under the bridge and check out their amazing flight from its eaves at dusk. Watch out for guano today from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
