Instead of the world-weary, bombs-and-bullets-filled documentary you might expect from this week's "Israeli Film Series," today's installment in the Jewish Community Center's summer series is a coming-of-age dramedy. Bonjour Monsieur Shlomi(2004), directed by Shemi Zarhin, is about a sensitive 17-year-old who becomes the caretaker of his dysfunctional family, complicating his relationship with the girl next door and his math-whiz ambitions. And to think, our best-known coming-of-age film involves sex with a pie.
