When Houstonians hear "John Evans is performing," they probably think of the local rockabilly favorite. Well, the John Evans performing today at the Laff Stop is not that John Evans. He's the Los Angeles comedian John Evans — and such misidentification is apparently a problem for him. On his Web site, Evans points out that he's not the John Evans who grows giant fruit competitively, nor the one who tours state fairs, balancing objects on his head. He's also not another comedian named John Evans, a Briton who holds the world record for the number of jokes told in an hour. There was also a John Evans who governed the Colorado territory, but let's talk about the John Evans performing today. Known for his bits about thrift stores, Greyhounds and other good places where he meets eccentric people, Evans has opened for George Carlin, Dave Chappelle and Lewis Black. John Evans, not that John Evans, but thatJohn Evans, takes the stage today at 8:30 p.m.
