"Booty"-licious

KC says shake it

For all that's changed since 1973, booty-shakin' is an area that's been essentially untouched. Sure, there might not be too many people sporting clogs and leisure suits while they do it, but bumpin' your bottom to the beat is what it is. Perhaps that's why KC & the Sunshine Band, who headline today's KC's Boogie Blast, claim on their Web site to be "as widely popular today as they were when they first danced onto the music scene 33 years ago." While we're skeptical, we have to give props to these pioneers of funk for classics such as "Shake Your Booty" and "That's the Way (I Like It)" that have caused many a trembling gluteus.

That said, the original Ms. Thang Gloria Gaynor may steal the show when she belts out that favorite of karaoke parties and break-up mix tapes "I Will Survive." Fellow '70s soul favorites Sister Sledge and Tavares also play this funkfest, so be ready to see the jelly at 8 p.m.
Fri., Aug. 11, 8 p.m.
