Elvis was still relatively thin when Bye Bye Birdiedebuted on Broadway in 1960, satirizing rock and roll and then-contemporary teen culture. But 46 years later, there's still a nostalgic charm that keeps audiences smirking as the play's teenagers tie up the phone lines in "The Telephone Hour." Ace Theatre's production revives the classic tale of teen idol Conrad Birdie, who is in the throes of a media storm before his departure for the army. Meanwhile, one of Conrad's lucky fans causes an uproar in the sugarcoated fictional town of Sweet Apple, Ohio, when she is selected to give Conrad "one last kiss" on the hallowed Ed Sullivan Show. Oh, what won't those zany television people do for ratings? Recall a simpler time at 7:30 p.m.
