“New Animals”

Allison Hunter shows barnyard creatures without the barnyard

Photographer Allison Hunter wants you to fill in the blanks. In her exhibit “New Animals,” barnyard creatures are placed in one-tone environments, allowing the viewer to imagine the backdrop. For example, a lonely pony stands bottom corner of Untitled #7 with blackness surrounding it. Is it lost, or waiting to join a seven-year-old’s birthday party? A sheep looks out from a tan background in Untitled #9. What’s missing, pasture or petting zoo? The chicken in Untitled #10 is surrounded by night; those who step closer will make out the barn behind it disappearing into the darkness. Is it mealtime for a wolf, or just another quiet night on the farm? Decide for yourself.
