The Station Museum of Contemporary Art’s “Three One-Man Exhibits” features artists on the rise. Congolese-born sculptor Aime Mpane creates human figures out of matchsticks. A Bomb with a Time-Delayshows a man in shorts lying on his back with his arms behind his head. Mpane is the most notable of the three, having been featured in festivals such as Dak’Art Biennale, where he showed found object assemblages exploring life and politics in his homeland. Rice instructor George Smith’s Return to Diankabou looks like a circular maze; it is made of black, chest-high walls arranged in the middle of the gallery. And New Yorker James Little’s abstract paintings resemble multicolored combs interlocking.
Wednesdays-Sundays, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Starts: May 27. Continues through Sept. 16
