“Intertwined: Contemporary Baskets from the Sara and David Lieberman Collection”

HCCC goes basket crazy

“Intertwined: Contemporary Baskets from the Sara and David Lieberman Collection” gives you the chance to change your thinking about baskets. Sure, they’re handy things for carrying muffins or picnics around, but what about a basket made from postcards? Or fish skins? Or maybe porcupine quills? Pretty wild, huh? Well that’s the point. Houston Center for Contemporary Craft wants to present the basket in a whole new way. More than 40 artists are featured in this show, including experimental artist John McQueen, who works with text, and Jane Sauer, who produces knotted pieces. See the show now or wait until curator Heather S. Lineberry is in town later next month to give a talk on the collection for an authoritative discussion.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: June 30. Continues through Sept. 23, 2007
