The Police

The Police perform Friday, June 29, at the Toyota Center, 1510 Polk St., 713-627-9622. Fiction Plane also performs.

The true kings of '80s pop are playing together again for the first time in 20 years. In celebration of the band's 30th anniversary, The Police are trekking the globe, playing everywhere from Austria to Australia. Highlights from the band's nine-month reunion tour include the headlining slot at the annual Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Tennessee on June 16, and the trio's upcoming Live Earth performance at Giants Stadium on July 7, both aimed at bringing awareness to the issue of global warming. The members of Police, who essentially disbanded following the enormous success of 1983's Synchronicity, have continued to pursue their own individual ambitions. While Sting worked a solo musical career and focused his attention on activism, his fellow bandmates devoted much of their time to composing film scores. Guitarist Andy Summers scored Down and Out in Beverly Hillsand Weekend at Bernie's, while drummer Stewart Copeland was responsible for scoring Francis Ford Coppola's Rumble Fish, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
