Gulf Coast Jam

Blue-eyed soul legends the Boogie Kings, Jerry LaCroix and G.G. Shinn hit Port Arthur

Local legends the Boogie Kings are playing the Port Arthur Gulf Coast Jam. What started out as a three-piece jam in a Eunice, Louisiana, kitchen morphed into the premier club band on the Gulf Coast by the end of the ‘50s. In fact, the Kings eventually became so popular, they played Vegas and Hollywood to sold-out crowds. Over the years, literally hundreds of the best musicians on the Gulf Coast played in the ever-changing lineup, which packed clubs night after night from Bourbon Street to Galveston while recording blue-eyed soul classics such as Live at the Bamboo Hut. After 50 years, the Kings have already had one “final reunion” show, and who knows how much longer the boogie machine will last. Also on the bill: Jerry “Count Jackson” LaCroix, who not only played seven years with the Kings but also made rock history as a member of Edgar Winter’s White Trash, and another killer vocalist from the Kings, G.G. Shinn.
