In terms of hot summer bangers, 2007 is being dragged like roadkill underneath 2006's whip. Both T.I.'s Grammy-winning "What You Know" and Yung Joc's grower "It's Goin' Down" still get plenty of face time on the radio and in the club. So what about this summer? Sadly, most of the pair's new music is unremarkable and forgettable. First, there's Yung Joc's awful new single, "Coffee Shop." Last year he was all about popular summer hangouts like the club and the mall. Who wants to be cramped in a vinyl booth, drinking a hot beverage and eating humble pie with wrinkly old people and Jerry Seinfeld when it's hot as hell outside? And sure, maybe T.I.'s numerous guest spots (R. Kelly's "I'm a Flirt" and DJ Khaled's "We Takin' Over"), as well as his own singles ("Big Shit Poppin'(Do It)," "You Know What It Is"), are doing okay on the radio, but I couldn't sing the hook if I'd just listened to T.I. vs. T.I.P. an hour ago. Perhaps Austin-born Ciara ("Goodies," "Oh"), T-Pain ("I'm in Luv Wit a Stripper") and up-and-coming R&B sensation Lloyd will stoke the Screamfest crowd. They'll be screaming all right but for which songs?
