“Emerging Artists 2007”

Clay-mation of another kind

“It is our understanding that nobody shows emerging…clay artists — not in the Houston area and not anywhere else,” says Janis Ross, president of the Clay Arts Museum and Educational Organization. The “Emerging Artist 2007” exhibit is CAMEO’s solution to that problem. Around 15 young artists, university and college students from across the Houston area are participating in the show, exhibiting some 25 pieces. This year’s People’s Choice winner is Megan Posey, who submitted a tall vase known simply as “Number 11.” “It’s very subtle,” says Ross, “and it’s very interesting to me that this won, because there were certainly other more exuberant pieces. She has drawn faces and writing on it — it’s covered all over with images — but they are very subtle. You almost can’t see them. I’m very pleased that people can see the value of this piece.” See if you agree with the People’s Choice from
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Aug. 15. Continues through Aug. 31
