With 18 world-class museums and a slew of fun activities, Houstons annual Museum District Day is a highlight of the summer arts season. Everyone from grizzled museum hounds to rank novices will find something to fascinate, amaze or just amuse them. Scheduled activities ranging from the live science show Food Unleashed at the Health Museum to a reenactment of the life of Underground Railroad hero Harriet Tubman at the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum to music by Houston Press award winners D.R.U.M. at the Menil Collection. The Contemporary Arts Museum will offer artists tours of the Nexus Texas exhibit, and for kids, therell be Tall Texas Tales storytelling and trick roping by Cowboy Bob. At the Holocaust Museum, families will see moving exhibits like camp survivor Esther Krinitzs quilting show Through the Eye of a Needle. At Lawndale Arts Center, local graffiti artists will decorate the sidewalk with chalk drawings, while the Weather Museum will sponsor a scavenger hunt. For children, the highlight may well be at the Childrens Museum of Houston, where they will have the opportunity to make and test miniature cars and rockets. Sounds like a blast to us.
