Alan Haynes

Blues guitarist comes home

Born in Houston in 1956, blues guitarist Alan Haynes has played with everyone who is anyone in the Texas blues scene: Albert “The Iceman” Collins, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jim Suhler, Freddie King and Johnny Winter are just a few of the big names on the list. While Haynes has certainly never reached the heights of fame of his friends Vaughan, Collins or Winter, he still manages to play at festivals all over Europe year after year, and his twice-weekly appearances at Nuno’s on Sixth in Austin still draw a regular crowd of blues aficionados and purists who appreciate his stellar playing. Haynes has also been a regular at our own Big Easy Social Club since its inception. He’s such a regular, in fact, that he released an album titled Live at the Big Easy in 2002. This blistering record is a testament to Haynes’s commitment to his art and to his staying power in what can be an extremely fickle niche.
