Miho Hatori

Mix it up with a friend of the Gorillaz and Beastie Boys

Miho Hatori has worked the ones and twos with the likes of the Gorillaz, the Beastie Boys and even jazz jammers Medeski, Martin & Wood. The music maker has come pretty far since she started out in Tokyo switching back and forth from fronting her own punk group to creating beats. As half of the duo Cibo Matto, she produced Viva! la Woman, which Time named as one of the top hip-hop albums of all time. For her latest solo release, Ecdysis, Hatori offers an ambient mix of J-pop (Japanese pop music) and world beats. We’re guessing she’ll either leave these lullabies aside or mix them up with some funky beats to get the crowd of artsy see-and-be-seeners at the Starbucks Mixed Media Music Series on their feet. She’ll get some help from local artists DJ Dayta — from the Proletariat’s weekly dance party RockBox — and Glasnost, who will start spinning the night away with resident DJ Ceeplus and the House of Bad Knives.
Sat., Aug. 25, 8 p.m.
