“Through the Eye of a Needle”
New exhibit at HMH
Esther Nisenthal Krinitz was only 15 years old when she was ordered to report to the train station in Mniszek, Poland, for “processing” by the Nazis during World War II. What happened to her after that is the subject of “Through the Eye of the Needle: Fabric Art of Esther Nisenthal Krinitz,” the newest exhibit at the Holocaust Museum Houston. Trained as a dressmaker, Krinitz choose to tell her story of survival through large-scale embroidered panels. Using thread, bits of fabric, and a simple, folk-art style, Krinitz recalls scenes from the Holocaust, such as the long march away from home in Road to Krasnik and the landscape Janiszew Prison Camp.
