“Art Fetishes Absinthe”

You heathen, you

What hedonist in his right mind would host an event called “Art Fetishes Absinthe”? Kurtz, of course. “I want people to enjoy this indulgent experience,” says the artist with just one word for a name. “Come in costumes, celebrate your favorite fetish, drink lots of absinthe.” (No word on whether the real green fairy will be in attendance; she’s technically illegal in the U.S., so you’ll have to attend to find out.) Kurtz describes himself as a “true artist” and “alchemist,” and says he wishes to “return art to the elitism it once held.” Once a street preacher, Kurtz rejected Christianity and chose art as his religion. Despite his extreme rhetoric, Kurtz’s two-day show should be a pretty wild party. His last show, an ironic tribute to Anna Nicole Smith, attracted protesters and death threats. Let’s see what happens when Kurtz mixes art, sex and illegal substances. This two-day show closes today.
Fri., Sept. 14, 7 p.m.; Sat., Sept. 15, 7 p.m.
