Four Corners Music from Asia, Europe, North and South America

Mukuru raises awareness by bringing the ends of the earth to Houston

Throughout cities all over the country, it seems it’s the artistic communities whose members are often hit hardest by AIDS. And they’re often at the forefront of the battle lines, holding events to increase awareness about the disease and its prevention. Mukuru — the arts arm of AIDS Foundation Houston — is bringing the audience the world for its next event, Four Corners: Music from Asia, Europe, North and South America. A ten-piece band of musicians on classical instruments led by pianist Gary Norian (and including The Fischer Duo) will perform works by George Gershwin, Astor Piazzolla, Shih-Hui Chen, Johannes Brahms and Norian himself. The pianist will also present his own arrangement of Gershwin’s “Summertime,” which could send the purists into a tizzy. But even Georgie Boy would probably approve of a little tweaking for a good cause.
