Del the Funky Homosapien has gone from protégé to pioneer. The Oakland flowmaster began under the wing of cousin and OG Ice Cube, but flew the coop to develop his own style. The result was a mix of jazzy sampling and off-center lyrics about topics such as bowel movements ("BMs") and the importance of hygiene ("If You Must"). His quirky rhymes may have hip-hop heads divided on whether or not to take him seriously, but his ability to twist and spit out phrases — no matter what they're about — at an alarming rate has them agreeing he's worth his weight in hype. Del hits the mike Tuesday with a mix of local and California flavor including Houston's man of the year Devin the Dude and his own protégés the Coughee Brothaz.
