Festa Italiana

Party Parmigiana style

Now that The Sopranos is over and they’re demolishing Satriale’s, where can you get a big plate of gabagool, or a nice, overstuffed canoli to have with your espresso? Houston’s 29th annual Festa Italiana is a celebration of Italian culture, music and — of course — food. Entertainment will include grape-stomping and pasta-eating contests, a bocce ball tournament, tarantella folk dancing, live music from the Cugini Band and Doppelganger, an Italian sports-car show and children’s activities. And though the current venue doesn’t have the open-air ambience of a real Italian street festival like it did when it was held downtown, at least there are no pigeons to add any unwanted toppings to your meatball parmigiana sandwich. Buon appetito! The fun runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow. Houston Farm and Ranch Club, 1 Abercrombie Drive. For information, call 713-524-4222 or visit www.houstonitalianfestival.com. $6 (kids free).
Sat., Oct. 13, 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Sun., Oct. 14, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., 2007
