Cat Scientist, Lick Lick, Three Fantastic

Cat Scientist creates the type of quirky, clever techno-pop only an indie fan could love. The Austin quintet entertains with sounds that could be likened to ‘80s left-of-the dial outfits like They Might Be Giants or Kraftwerk and well--harmonized, male/female vocals that mirror recent groups like Mosquitos. Songs such as “Precipice” exemplify the group’s mastery of fast-paced, synchronized delivery over disco-infused synth-rock. At about a hundred syllables a minute, the band members sing about hanging out on Sixth Street; instrumentals provide their lungs a rest before they jump into the next verse or split up into a multilayered, melodic chorus. Cat Scientist is quickly gaining on the likes of Austin favorites Pong, who they accompanied here just a couple months ago.
