Montrose Crawl

Trick-or-treat, smell my feet, give something good to drink

Once you turn 21, you’re pretty much too old to go trick-or-treating without getting yelled at by concerned adults. But if the idea of parading down the street in costume still sparks your fancy (and you’re not a prostitute), then the Montrose Crawl is right up your boulevard. (And actually so is the Gay Pride Parade, but this is October.) The Halloween celebration starts off at Agora and from there runs down Westheimer, stopping at Poison Girl, Slider’s, Boondocks and Catbird’s. “Do I have to wear a costume? Yes, it’s Halloween. Don’t be a schmuck,” says the event’s Web site FAQ section. And besides, as many a comedian has noted, there’s never a better time for ladies to show off what their momma gave them than on All Hallows’ Eve, when spooky and scantily clad strangely go hand-in-hand. Just remember, gals, if you choose to go with that skimpy Raggedy Ann costume, you might draw a few comments from other drunken patrons: “Are you going to order a Red Headed Slut or just be one?”

If you’d rather not trade door-to-door for bar-to-bar, then stay put at The Proletariat’s Halloween Party/Fatal Flying Guilloteens CD release show. Whether you just want to rock out or enter the costume contest, the night is sure to deliver plenty of crazy stage antics and even more interesting photo ops. And if you think your costume is good enough to sweep all the local contests, Rudyard’s is hosting a costume competition too. Wherever you go, be on the lookout for punk kids who might throw eggs at you (a.k.a. the FFG). The Crawl starts at 7 p.m., Agora, 1712 Westheimer. For information, visit www.montrosecrawl.com. Free. The Proletariat’s Halloween party starts at 9 p.m. 903 Richmond. For information, call 713-523-1199 or visit www.theproletariatehouston.com. Rudyard’s contest starts at 11 p.m. 2010 Waugh. For information, call 713-521-0521 or visit www.rudyards.com.
