New York Times best-selling author Clive Cussler is a lot like the men he writes about — he’s tough, weatherworn and always ready for an adventure. For his latest book, The Chase, Cussler has left Dirk Pitt (the lead in 19 Cussler novels) at home and instead taken up the story of detective Isaac Bell. As the author is a deep-sea diver who has discovered more than 60 shipwrecks, it’s no wonder that an underwater wreck is featured in The Chase. Moving between 1906 (during a two-year crime spree by the Butcher Bandit) and 1950 (when a train car containing the watery remains of three of the Bandit’s victims is discovered at the bottom of a lake), The Chase is full of twists and turns.
