UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra

Conductor Charles Dutoit and pianist Martha Argerich join the international youth orchestra for a world tour

For a preview of the musicians you’ll be seeing in the world’s top orchestras for the next 50 years, don’t miss tonight’s performance by the UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra. More than 100 of the planet’s finest young musicians, ages 17 to 29, have been selected from among thousands and are coming together for a world tour. The musicians, who hail from 30 nations, will be joined by two distinguished elders, Swiss conductor Charles Dutoit and Argentine pianist Martha Argerich. Chopin Competition winner Argerich will perform Piano Concerto No. 3 by Prokofiev, then join the orchestra as they perform one of the Romantic period’s most important compositions, Hector Berlioz’s five-movement Symphonie Fantastique. Houston is the group’s second stop before they head to the likes of Genoa, Stockholm and Lyon; odds are many of them will be back. 8 p.m. Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana. For information, call 713-224-7575 or visit www.houstonsymphony.org. $25 to $90.
Sun., Nov. 11, 8 p.m., 2007
