The Come Latelys

This Austin quintet will put the tears in your beer

More About

The Come Latelys are the reason you dwell on a breakup. The Austin quintet’s -country-style tunes are what you want to hear as you put both elbows on the bar and order another beer to fill with tears. Their sound would be best filed under alt--country, as it teeters between rock and blues and occasionally ventures into ambient territory. (Think of a lazy Matthew Sweet.) On choice numbers like “The Country,” a church organ starts things off and is followed by cleverly crafted, harmonized vocals and dragging, distorted riffs. The song carries you away to a land of sorrows or, if you’re currently lucky in love, provides a nice reason to kick back and take a load off. Take your pick. After The Come Latelys’ fellow Austinites The Dirty Sound and Frank Smith perform. 9:30 p.m. Notsuoh, 314 Main. For information, visit www.myspace.com/notsuohmusic. Free.
Fri., Nov. 16, 9:30 p.m., 2007
