Verdura: The Life and Work of a Master JewelerThe Houston Museum of Natural Science presents a stellar collection of jewelry/artBy Olivia Flores AlvarezPublished on November 14, 2007 at 1:40amNo other 20th-century designer took jewelry from mere decoration to legitimate art form more than Fulco di Verdura (actually, thats Duke Fulco di Verdura, since he was born a Sicilian duke). In Verdura: The Life and Work of a Master Jeweler, the newest exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, visitors will see Verduras famed Garbo-watch (a curb-link bracelet watch that was said to be Greta Garbos favorite) and wrapped-heart brooch (more than 60 rubies and 200 diamonds form a red heart tied with silver ribbons), along with dozens of other designs and drawings fixing Verduras place as both a master jeweler and an artist. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
