Last year, The Squishees went on hiatus, and 500 Megatons of Boogie was formed. This year, it’s just the opposite. 500 Megatons is currently taking a break, so lead singer/guitarist Erik Westfall has re-formed The Squishees. This really doesn’t change much — both are reincarnations of Westfall’s work with bassist Johnny Todd — except for drummers. But the Squishees’ style is a tad zanier, and they are — sorry to the other drummer — the better of the two bands. Their oddly timed, funky post punk would be a joy to dance to if the rhythm wasn’t changing with each measure, but it’s a fair trade to just sit back and watch Westfall jerk his body back and forth as he delivers vocals that go from high-pitched to baritone with every verse. See them today, before Westfall and Todd decide they want to ditch this band for another, when The Squishees play after The Delta Block, Electricks and Econo at 2 p.m. Super Happy Fun Land, 2610 Ashland. For information, call 713-880-2100 or visit www.superhappyfunland.com. $10.
