The Blank Tapes may live out West, but their sound is straight from the South. The San Francisco group is influenced by Southern blues and rock and folk. “Smoke and Mirrors” starts off with a mean guitar riff that would have any Guitar Hero poised and ready for action, while “Listen to the One” is led by a walking bass line and talking/singing vocals that grab your head and bounce it happily from side to side. The Blank Tapes are the brainchild of singer/songwriter Matt Adams, who has kept the group up and running by talking friends into playing and touring whenever they have time. This time, however, Adams is flying solo. See how he does on his own today after the ambient electronica sounds of The Krell and the new wave rock of Houston’s Audio in the Pregap get things started at 8 p.m. Super Happy Fun Land, 2610 Ashland.
