Bob Biggerstaff and Mike MacRae

These two top comedians share the stage

Local comedians Bob Biggerstaff and Mike MacRae, who got their start at Houston’s Laff Stop, can now add “As Seen on TV” to their resumes. Biggerstaff was featured on Dave Attell’s recent HBO special Captain Miserable in a closing sketch. His best material is born out of his dry wit and love for watching — but not playing — sports. In one bit the, um, slightly portly (sorry, Bob) funny man talks about being introduced for a gig in St. Louis as “from Houston” during the Astros’ fight for the Series. The audience booed him and shouted “Astros Suck!” “Take it easy, folks,” Biggerstaff said. “I don’t know if you know this, but I don’t play for the Astros. I know I look like an athlete, but…”

MacRae, who recently moved to Austin, appeared on The Tonight Show with David Letterman over the summer as part of Impressionist Week. He killed with spot-on imitations of actors such as Harrison Ford, Sean Connery and Ozzy Osbourne. But MacRae isn’t just a “silly voice guy.” We gave him Best Comedian in 2002 for his ability to craft those voices into humorous interactions. One bit, in which he imagines being in a student in a class taught by Professor Indiana Jones, features the voices of both Ford and Connery.

See these and other scenarios which are probably much funnier when Biggerstaff and MacRae tell them at 8:30 p.m. today and Thursday, and 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The Laff Stop, 526 Waugh Drive. Through December 22. For tickets and information, call 713-524-2333 or visit www.laffstop.com. $15 to $25.
Wed., Dec. 19, 8:30 p.m.; Thu., Dec. 20, 8:30 p.m.; Fri., Dec. 21, 8 & 10:30 p.m.; Sat., Dec. 22, 8 & 10:30 p.m., 2007
