It’s been a few years since Houston’s favorite period ensemble, Mercury Baroque, performed Handel’s Messiah. That performance prompted music critic Charles Ward to say the piece was “performed as it was meant to be.” Well, we hope Ward doesn’t mind repeating himself, because once again Mercury Baroque is performing the work in its entirety and on period instruments, in what Mercury Baroque founder and conductor Antoine Plante says is “as it was played when it was first performed” way back in 1742. Soprano Ana Treviño--Godfrey, tenor Karim Sulayman and the Houston Chamber Choir join members of the Mercury Baroque orchestra for the concert. 7 p.m. today Wortham Center, 500 Texas.
